If you are re-installing Win95, the Win95 default installation will load the "ESS ES1688 AudioDrive" driver for your audio. The Dell XPiCDMMX 166 system uses the "ES1887 Plug and Play AudioDrive" driver on this disk. To install the driver, follow these instructions: Go to the Start menu, settings, control panel. In the control panel group, select the System icon. In the System Properties box, select Device Manager. Remove the "Unknown Device" AND in the "Sound, Video, and game controllers" key, remove the "ESS ES1688 AudioDrive". Close the System Properties box. DO NOT REBOOT THE COMPUTER. To add the correct driver, select the "Add New Hardware" icon in the control panel. Win95 will ask - "Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware? Select -NO-, then -NEXT-. In the next screen, scroll down to the "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" key, highlight it, and then select -NEXT-. Select -HAVE DISK- and make sure "A:\" is in the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" box. Insert the Dell audio drivers diskette into the floppy drive and select -OK-. Check that the "ES1887 Plug and Play AudioDrive (LXPiCDx 166)" option is highlighted and select -OK-. Then select -FINISH-. Win95 will display that it is "copying files". It will then show "Found new hardware", and then ask "Do you want to restart your computer now?" Select -YES-. Your computer will restart. Go back to the Start menu, select settings, control panel, and the system icon. Select the Device Manager key, and expand the "Sound, Video, and game Controllers" key. You should see two "ES1887 Plug and Play AudioDrive (XPiCDx 166)" drivers, remove the one with the yellow "!".
